Is Chiropractic Care Appropriate for Your Child?

You already know that chiropractic care can work wonders on lower back pain or an aching neck. Most people feel much better after having a chiropractic adjustment because it realigns all the parts of your frame that need an alignment.

But even if you’re sold on the value of chiropractic care for yourself, you may not have given your child an opportunity to get the same feel-good experience of an adjustment. Perhaps this is because you might think that children don’t suffer from the effects of being out of alignment, or maybe you’re satisfied with taking your child to the pediatrician. In this blog, the providers at Beeson Wellness Center explain why chiropractic adjustments can be good for the whole family.

We use drug-free treatments for healing

Traditional, or allopathic, medicine has its place, which is often to prescribe medication. However, with the smaller, more sensitive bodies of children and teens, there can be such a thing as too much medication. The truth is that chiropractors can treat many of the same conditions as your pediatrician, but without drugs.

One example is the common childhood condition of ear infections. Studies have shown that chiropractic manipulations can be just as effective in treating ear infections as antibiotics that you would have prescribed by most pediatricians. Because of the concerns about the overuse of antibiotics, being able to resolve ear infections without them is one of the most underrated benefits of chiropractic care.

Children’s bodies can become out of alignment

If you’ve ever watched your child play, you’ve seen them tumble and take falls that would leave you in a world of misery. Because most of the time, these mishaps don’t result in visible damage, we assume that kids are just fine. But during these episodes of rough play, children’s bodies can become out of alignment the same as yours would.

As adults, we often unconsciously dismiss many complaints of pain from our kids, although without having bad intentions for doing so. We assume kids are resilient or chalk up their complaints as just “growing pains.” In many cases, these complaints from children are often a sign that they need a little bit of extra attention.

We spot scoliosis and other developmental disorders

Scoliosis, or curvature of the spine, is regularly screened for by many school districts, usually in middle school. However, a chiropractor is a spinal specialist and is more likely to spot this problem developing long before in-school screenings would catch it. By becoming aware that this is a problem at an earlier age, we can start to correct it earlier, too.

Teens can experience back and neck pain, too

Though it’s true that adults seem to be plagued more often by issues such as lower back pain and neck pain, adolescents can experience these pains, too. This may be especially the case with kids who are active in sports.

In addition, once your teen starts driving, they’re more likely to get in a few fender benders that could result in whiplash or other soft tissue damage. Getting regular chiropractic adjustments for teenagers can prevent problems that could recur throughout adulthood.
